Need ideas for "Cupids" sequel...

I'm still working on that last chapter, the one EVERYONE is waiting for, but my Muse is already thinking about the sequel. Originally, the story was going to be a bit longer, but I realized that the subsequent events were all in a different tone. Hence, breaking it up into at least one more story.

I want to give them an adventure to go on, which tests the Doctor and Donna in this critical time right after the Library, and ultimately helps Jenny start coming to grips with her actions in the Library - and start healing. Muse is thinking of a return to New New Earth. I figure Donna is going to have some things to say about how the Doctor didn't do much to help the people set a path toward recovery, especially given what happened with Martha.

So there has to be some trouble that finds them. I see the return of some characters from "Gridlock," and then some new bad guys. The question is, what kind of adventure could I give them?

Also, what would you readers like to see happen in the sequel? Any particular Shakespearean lines I should try to include? Maybe someone has another adventure in mind that might work better?

I'd love the feedback. I think my Muse is going to split her time between this and some other stories. I still have an unfinished extra for "The Belted Doctor" to work on, and there's a new Shakespearean-inspired story in mind. Which y'all should LOVE...!

I presume that since you're sending them to New Earth, then you're thinking of New New (x15) York? How about a fight between gangs, or street gangs, maybe those drug manufacturers, who sold Happy and Sad and Forget in "Gridlock". You could interwine a little bit of Romeo and Juliet in there, something West-Side-Story-ish...
The Doctor, Jenny and Donna could act as diplomats and matchmakers, the Doctor and Donna in particular being confronted with their own relationship while helping someone else's develop... Or something.

Hope some of that helped!

Jenny would have an interesting perspective on that, being so young. Depending on how comfortable she is with bringing it up, she might make parallels with Rose's story... making her dad REALLY uncomfortable...

Definite food for thought... Thanks!

I suppose if you're looking for Shakespeare the best choice would be A Midsummer Night's Dream, as that is as funny (if not more so) as MAAN. However it's mostly about falling in love, not problems you face once you're already there.

Perhaps a better choice would be The Merchant of Venice, which has great female characters in Portia and Nerissa (parallels with Donna and Jenny?). It would give Donna the chance to save the day, as Portia and Nerissa do in the play. You might find some of the religious undertones difficult, but if you are setting this somewhere like New (x15) York, that could work in your favour, particularly if you bring in the Cat People (as I'm sure you will). Or perhaps you are thinking of using the Infected (from Rose's visit). Either way, that could give you great scope for a fic. (You could also force the Doctor into some uncomfortable reflections about his initial thoughts on Jenny.)

AMND is too much about falling in love, but I might find elements within to use.

Merchant has potential... So does Measure for Measure... I'll be doing some research to make this journey for our trio as compelling as possible.

Thanks for the ideas!

No worries, can't wait to see what you come up with! Perhaps just a Shakespeare mash-up? ;-)

I love The Merchant of Venice! I would love to see this one!

When I read your idea summary I immediately thought of the mini series Alice. It was a really warped version of Alice in Wonderland. If you haven't seen it yet you sould definetly check it out. It is amazing! I'm not sure what Shakespeare play you could tie it in with. Just something that popped into my head. My favorite Shakespeare play is A Winter's Tale. I can't think of any way to tie it in to anything to do with Who though.

Fortunately, I have these audio lectures on Shakespeare's plays. They should help me come up with ideas. Maybe elements of A Winter's Tale could be used...

Any time I hear someone mention A Winter's Tale now I have to think of Catherine's marvelous rendition of Hermione's monologue ♥: http://www.tumblr.com/tagged/this+is+a+blog+about+catherine+tate+and+her+stupid+face+and+how+it+has+successfully+taken+over+and+ruined+my+life

Anywho, I don't really have anything to add for the muse sadly but I would like to say that I would love a story on New Earth, anything to make the Doctor uncomfortable because of the connections to Rose *gg* Or maybe them meeting Queen Victoria and her liking Donna whereas she never liked The Doctor and Rose :p

You know, katherine_b wrote a story that used that in her Finding a Way Home series. Ooh... This time, her anger would also be over the absence of Jenny...! Oh, my! There's a thought! There'd be no way he could avoid realizing quickly just how much he mucked up with Rose then...! (cackles)

I'm filing that one up near the top of the list! It might not make the final cut, but I'm going to find a use for that!

And WHOA on that link! I'm going to have to use that scene somehow!
