Update and a very cool music video

What? Weird Al is one of the coolest people around. The writers on my f-list should appreciate this one. :D

Okay... and now for the update. Which is overdue.

Some of you are aware of this because I emailed you given how often we're in contact. The rest... get to hear it now. I'm moving from the Austin, TX area to the Phoenix, AZ area. I got a new job as a chess coach, teaching elementary school children.

Yes, it's possible to make a living that way, and I'm excited. I'll be living there within two weeks, starting training a few days later, and will be teaching at the end of August. Which means my current job ends a week from yesterday.

Leaving my cohorts and bosses is saddening because I've made good friends and the bosses I have are awesome. The regulars... some I will miss a lot, and some I'm fine with leaving to others. I've been slowly letting the regulars know, and I can tell some will miss me a lot.

It's the end of an era, although it might not mean I completely leave food and beverage. I'm looking into getting a steakhouse job to earn some extra money until I become completely self-sufficient by teaching.

Now the biggest challenge? Packing into ONE car. My new car. Yes, it's cool. I can finally hook up my smartphone and iPod to my car with nothing more than a USB cord. I love it, and it's gotten great feedback from my coworkers who've seen it. And I don't mind not dealing with a car that overheats when I idle too long in the Austin summer heat. Yeah, no way that car was going to Phoenix.

So... now the packing goes on. While I keep going with making everything go on schedule. And still working on Camp NaNo. So this could mean some of my stories will be coming a bit later than usual. They are coming, and I will likely have more time to write.

Ooh... best of luck to you on your move and new career!

I don't envy you the packing part and trying to fit everything into your car. Tetris is fun... We fit a lot more into my car (minivan) than we thought we could, my kids kept saying it was bigger on the inside (I think even my husband passed a comment like that once). You might consider renting a trailer if you can't fit everything, depending on if you can attach it to your car.

Anyway, good luck and keep us posted when you can.

As much as a trailer might be handy, I've never driven a car dragging one before. Now is not the time to start. And besides, it's going to be a lesson in how little I actually need.

Thank you. All future updates will be friend-locked, just for the record.

Thanks to the GEMA, I can't watch the video *sigh* I've given up using YT in this country.

Anyway! Everyone seems to be moving. That's great, I hope your new bosses & students will be just as nice. And yay for the new car, I see why an AC can be useful in the south.

What's the GEMA? Sounds like a sour note on anyone's day. :(

I like my boss, and I like the coworkers I've met so far. I do well around kids, so I'm hopeful. And yes, a working AC is critical. Especially in Arizona summers. (Just look up the climate to see why.) :)

And thank you.

Yup, that pretty much sums it up. It's an organisation in Germany making sure you cannot listen to any kind of music you haven't paid for. So 70% of every YT video gets block, the others are either covers or low quality so they cannot find them.

Sounds promising! I have heard a few stories by my acting partner who's an exchange student from the American south(don't ask me from where exactly, because my memory is terrible D:). She told me a few things about the heat there, but I guess I'll have to experience it for myself at least once *hopes*

Ah. Lovely. :(

Yeah. And there's still too much to do. :/ Do make travel to that kind of environment a part of your to-do list. :)

Oooo. I was born in Phoenix. I have some family still there. I do not envy you the summers though. I hated the heat. My aunt says this year has been decent on haboobs, but there has been some monsoon activity. I think it'll still be monsoon season if you're moving in a couple weeks. I think July 3rd was the last big monsoonal storm that caused flash flooding in the streets that they had. I also would recommend carrying thick dish towels in the car, for touching the steering wheel and gear shift with until the A/C cools the car down.

That video is the best ever. Weird Al should be given some huge award for it. =D

Aw... SharkDavid! :D

I feel that the weather of the Pacific Northwest is still my fave. Just haven't yet managed a way to live there again. It's a great opportunity, so I'm going to make the most of it.

Dish towels? Thank you for the tip. I'll be looking for a good heat shield (that doesn't have edges that fray off and make a mess - been there TWICE with that before) and perhaps a seat cover. It'll be more important because I use a back support and a seat cushion to make driving more comfortable.

Isn't it great? Some of his stuff could be used as teaching material. :D
